Nature On The Dunes

Mystery Bay Campground is a rare, natural beachfront campsite on the NSW South Coast, set between native bushland and rugged ocean cliffs. Camping is open and flexible, allowing you to choose your own space and make it your own among spotted gums, acacias and banksias, close to headlands and small beaches. Suitable for tents, caravans and campervans, it offers a genuine bush-and-beach escape for travellers seeking tranquillity and a strong connection to nature.

Facilities are simple and rustic – expect pit toilets, cold showers and drinking water taps, along with plenty of room for boats, caravans or campers. A stay here means waking to the sound of waves, drifting off beneath a canopy of gums, and spending your days exploring the coast, forest and rock pools at your own pace.

The campground sits right on the ocean, with Mystery Bay Beach and several smaller beaches just steps away. Visitors can enjoy swimming, walking along the sand, or simply watching the surf roll in, while a sheltered rock pool north of the main beach offers calm waters for snorkelling, a gentle dip, or exploring the local marine life.

For those who enjoy walking and nature, a short bush-to-beach trail leads to Billy’s Beach, a peaceful 1-kilometre return walk through native bushland with stunning coastal scenery, rock pools to explore, and possible views of nearby islands. The surrounding headlands and cliff-top vantage points are perfect for quiet strolls, taking in coastal vistas, or spotting local wildlife.

Mystery Bay Campground is also ideally located for exploring the surrounding area. Charming coastal villages are within easy reach, offering local dining, boutique shops, and craft-beer producers. Whales and Wallabies!

10 Dec, 2025

We arrived really late, but a simple log book and we drove to find our perfect spot – would recommend keep driving to the end, some beautiful spots with gorgeous view over the sea. The toilet was well stocked with toilet roll and for a drop loo was relatively clean!

We woke up in the morning to whales breaching out to sea and wallabies hopping around our tent – it was a beautiful site and we loved staying here.

Wish We Had A Week

10 Dec, 2025

Mystery Bay is beautiful! The camp ground was just so lovely with huge eucalypts surrounding and protecting from the wind of the bay. The toilets were fine for a composting toilet and plenty around so no matter the site there was one within a short walk. We were easily able to find a space for us and two other families in caravans that was private and spacious with room for a fire. Obviously a hot shower would be desired but we came understanding that this wasn’t a facility provided here. We only stayed one night but wish we’d had a week. The beach is so close and the little bays to the south were so fun to explore.

Stunning!

Absolutely stunning location, plenty of spots to choose from meandering off from the winding track. The Ranger we met on Thursday was truly a lovely and lady. I would highly recommend this offgrid spot.

Private with Heaps of Space

10 Dec, 2025

Really great camp grounds. Dog friendly with heaps of space. Felt very private. By the beach that is dog friendly off leash most of the year. The caretaker and her dog were very nice. Had next to no phone signal. Plenty of bins and toilets scattered around.
