Mount Larcom Tourist Park, OLD

A Review By Alison Huth

When we arrived at the entrance to the Mt Larcom Tourist Park the boom gate was down. Obviously we stopped, and then looked at the boom gate because it has the information you need to get into the park. The hours the office is open and the phone number to ring to get someone to come and open the boom gate so you can get in. A very neat idea and it worked perfectly.

Peter rang the number and Teena came down to see us, opened the boom gate and met us in the
office. So, we checked in, got the park map with the boom gate code, and the code to the amenities. All very neat and tidy.

We went to our site, set up and decided to have a bit of a rest before taking a walk around. It’s sad to say that there’s not a lot of green grass, but it’s the time of year and lack of rain that causes this. Other times of the year when the climate is playing fair the park is green.

Walking around was excellent. First point of major interest was the amenities. Not only are they in excellent condition, but they are a touch humorous too. It’s something to do with the ID paintings at each one. I couldn’t see a name on the other one but you automatically know who it’s for. I was also impressed with a sign in the amenities requesting that you clean up after yourselves. As an ex-park operator I do know how important a message like that is!

The main part of the park has cabins as well as powered sites. Plus the camp kitchen/laundry is on this level too. The Camp Kitchen is excellent because it has heaps of tourist info, games, book and jigsaws to borrow as entertainment. An excellent idea especially to a jigsaw fanatic like me.

Up on a higher level there are unmarked unpowered sites. This is a newly developed area and has magnificent views. Plus, it has a very special area. If you love seeing a sunrise this is the place to do it. There’s a special spot, on the top level directed exactly at the sunrise. You can take a photo through a wooden picture frame set up in just the right spot. Now, I have to admit to taking Teena’s word on that because we are not morning people, and sunrise is very, very early morning to us.

What really impresses me about this park is how easy it is to be here. Teena and Geoff are ex-
caravanners so they know what caravanners want. In fact they were on the road for about 3, going on 4 years. They weren’t just on their own they had their four kids and 2 dogs with them. The experiences they had while they were on the road have translated into aspects of their park.

It’s friendly, easy to stay in, calm and entertaining. Throughout the park there are lots of lovely
statues, many of which are gifts from guests to say thanks to Teena and Geoff. Mt Larcom isn’t a big place, but this park is a delight to stay in more than once!
