Travellers Rest 1770 Eco Camping Joins Kui Parks, Bringing a Coastal – Bush Nature Escape to Queensland’s Discovery Coast

Agnes Waters, QLD
Kui Parks is delighted to welcome Travellers Rest 1770 Eco Camping, a peaceful, eco-certified bush retreat just a short drive from Agnes Water and Seventeen Seventy (1770). Set on 44 acres of native bushland beside Eurimbula National Park, the park offers travellers a quiet escape where wide-open spaces, abundant birdlife and a relaxed coastal-meets-bush atmosphere create a truly grounding experience.

A Bush Camp Built From the Ground Up
Travellers Rest 1770 Eco Camping has a story that’s as unique as the property itself.
Originally from Germany, the owners Michi and Mike came to Australia as young backpackers. They spent many years camping across Australia, but it was at the spectacular Kakadu National Park and the work Mike did as a tour guide and seasonal ranger, that inspired this dream of opening a campground.
When they discovered this property in 2017 – close to town, close to the beach, yet surrounded by peaceful bushland – they knew it was the perfect fit. They built the park themselves and opened in 2020, going on to win several awards, particularly in ecotourism and sustainability. Their three children have since grown up exploring the land, with the bush as their backyard.
“Meeting people from all over the world and hearing their adventure stories is the most rewarding part,” they shared. “We love watching our kids play with the ‘camp kids’ and connecting people back to nature.”

Accommodation Options
The Ecotourism certified campground provides a range of stays designed for comfort, space and immersion in nature:
- Powered and unpowered bush sites – generously spaced among tall trees
- Eco tiny houses – offering a cosy, nature-inspired stay
- Bush camping areas – ideal for travellers seeking simplicity and open skies
It’s a locally run, eco-certified campground where the focus is on nature, respect for the land and a genuine, welcoming atmosphere.
Guests are often surprised by the sense of serenity, the nature-escape setting and the sunrises and sunsets that frame each day. Travellers often arrive planning to stay for a night or two, only to discover the calming energy of the property and extend their visit.
“This is the best campground we’ve stayed at so far. The owner Mike is so lovely and welcoming. At night he does a slide show presentation to give information about the surroundings which is very informative and entertaining. The campsite itself is picturesque and lots of wildlife. There is also a bush trail which has a boardwalk so very easy to navigate. The amenities were very clean and the showers were always lovely and hot. Couldn’t recommend this place enough. Would love to stay here again.”

Nature Experiences Right Inside the Park
What makes Travellers Rest 1770 truly special is how easily visitors can connect with nature without ever leaving the grounds. Thanks to Mich and Mike’s combined knowledge of native bush tucker, bush medicine and local wildlife, the campground has been thoughtfully shaped into an ideal destination for nature enthusiasts.
Wander the elevated bush boardwalk, take a self-guided interpretive walk, or pause at the bird hide to spot the many species that thrive in the surrounding bushland. Guests can also join a guided bush-tucker walk directly from the park, learning about the local environment and the cultural stories connected to the land.
Evenings often bring guests together for Mike’s Moonlit Tales, a warm community moment where travellers share stories, learn about the region and soak in the peaceful atmosphere under the stars.
