A beautiful place to unwind

Maaroom is a small, tranquil fishing village on the waters of the Great Sandy Strait, with spectacular views across to Fraser Island. It is a natural, pristine holiday setting, about 20 km south of Maryborough along the Cooloola Coast Highway.

Our park is a shady, peaceful place to unwind and relax, situated in a bushy setting 400m from the waterfront. We have powered and drive through sites with concrete annex slabs, as well as a large grassy camping area. You can also enjoy our salt-water swimming pool and shady BBQ area.

Our shop is fully stocked with all the essentials and is the only store in the local area. Providing guests and visitors with ready to eat meals, snacks, cold drinks, bread, milk, grocery items and daily newspapers. We also have unleaded fuel, bait, ice and we can refill your gas bottles. Enjoy fishing, crabbing and the breathtaking bird and marine life in an idyllic environment, with a boat ramp and pontoon only 400m away.

Local Attractions

The tiny inlet of Maaroom in the Fraser Coast region is nestled along the spectacular shoreline of the Great Sandy Strait, with stunning views across to the world’s largest sand island, Fraser Island. Just a short drive south is Tin Can Bay, which is known for its visiting dolphins, which come in for a feed every morning around 7.30am. There is also an 18-hole golf course for those who like to practise their swing. In Maryborough, there are a number of museums, markets, a steam train ride, and the Fraser Coast Wildlife Sanctuary. You can have a photo taken at the Mary Poppins statue or take part in the annual Mary Poppins Festival in the winter school holidays.

If you enjoy researching your family tree, the Maryborough Family Heritage Institute holds one of the largest collections of genealogy records in Queensland and the Maryborough District Family History Society provides vital research resources for the genealogist. Not too far afield is Hervey Bay, from where you can travel to Fraser Island with all its attractions. The protected waters of Hervey Bay offer an amazing opportunity to watch the majestic humpback whales between late July – November.

Maaroom is part of a collection of quaint fishing villages dotted along the water’s edge of the Great Sandy Strait. Let the pace wind back several notches by following the Great Sandy Strait Discovery Drive to these villages and surrounding national parks to discover coloured sands and sand blows, incredible birdlife, fishing and boating.

Sure to return

Stayed two nights. Very clean and tidy. Very quiet with lots of wildlife. Kiosk with a few groceries. 300 metre walk to beach and a park at the foreshore all very well maintained. Most houses seem to be closed up or weekenders. Would highly recommend for people who love to fish. Has boat ramp and wharf. Peaceful kangaroos etc. great little hidden gem.

Quiet & picturesque

04 Feb, 2025

Enjoyed a quiet time in a picturesque setting. Staff caring and friendly. Maryborough is only 20 minutes away for additional requirements, although the park has store for necessities. A good rest spot to recover from over travelling.

We loved our stay

04 Feb, 2025

The parks grounds are meticulously tidy and clean. As is the toilet and shower facilities. The pool is so refreshingly cool after a day of fishing at the beach. The local kangaroos are so friendly and love lazing around all day on the lush green lawns. Will definitely be back for another visit!
