Lake Colac Holiday Park Reopens with Stunning Upgrades and a Community Celebration

Lake Colac Holiday Park is reopening its gates just in time for the summer holidays, and there’s never been a better reason to plan a getaway. After a period of closure for exciting upgrades in partnership with Colac Otway Shire Council, the park is ready to welcome guests with brand new amenities, lakeside views, and a host of activities to enjoy over its Grand Reopening Weekend on 10–11 January 2026.

A Grand Reopening for the Whole Community

The park’s reopening isn’t just a milestone for travellers—it’s a celebration for the Colac community. The launch weekend promises something for everyone:

  • Saturday 10 January | 5–8pm: Live music from local favourites, Band O’ Coots, food from H&H Gourmet Taiwan, lawn games, face painting by local artist Mira Westlake, and exciting raffle prizes. The event is open to the wider community, so even those not staying at the park can join the festivities.
  • Sunday 11 January: In-park guests will be treated to a complimentary bacon and egg breakfast served by the Rotary Club of Colac West.

Whether you’re a local, a grey nomad, or a family chasing lakeside sunsets, the park offers a peaceful escape from the busier coastal towns, yet is still close enough to use as a base for exploring the region.

Meet Darren – Bringing Passion and Expertise to the Park

Leading the park’s reopening and future vision is Darren, a local who has a deep connection to the area and a unique blend of skills. Having grown up in Geelong and spent most of his life on Victoria’s Surf Coast, Darren’s journey brought him to Colac after a career in hospitality and grounds management.

When he and his family decided to move to Colac, Darren saw an opportunity to combine his love of hospitality with his passion for horticultural design and landscape stewardship, drawing inspiration from his experience with the local botanical gardens. Lake Colac Holiday Park, sitting adjacent to the gardens and overlooking the lake, was the perfect fit. Here, Darren has been able to extend the natural beauty of the gardens into the park, creating a serene and welcoming environment for visitors.

“From a shire perspective, the park really feels like an extension of the botanical gardens,” Darren says. “We’ve been able to combine my love for gardens with creating a space where people can relax, enjoy the lake, and be part of a close-knit community.”

Upgrades and Accommodation

The park has undergone a remarkable transformation:

  • Brand new accessible bathroom amenities
  • New air-conditioned, camp kitchen with Dual-appliance setup to reduce wait times and make meal prep easier
  • Six studio cabins with either lake views or garden views
  • Landscaping that enhances the natural surroundings

These upgrades make Lake Colac Holiday Park a boutique, welcoming destination, perfect for grey nomads, weekend travellers, and locals alike.
