A Glimpse Into Virginia’s Past
Established in 1869, Virginia was one of four townsites surveyed by George Woodroffe Goyder during his extensive mapping of the Port Darwin region specifically for the purpose of town development. Today, visitors can explore the Virginia Town Site 1869 Survey Markers, featuring original stone trenches and ironwood pegs—some of the few remaining physical evidence of Goyder’s historic survey work.

Virginia caters well to caravanners, offering several holiday parks and campgrounds equipped with essential amenities. Our stay took us to the Oasis Tourist Park, part of the Kui Parks family of parks. This parks hosts, Gordon & Julie, along with their team are known for going the extra mile for their visitors and are a great authority on the area if you are wanting to know the best things to do and see in the area. The pool area is an Oasis in itself, with camp kitchens and meeting areas to choose from.
