Things To Do

Milang is a town steeped in history from the bygone days of the Paddle Steamer trade. Once a thriving river port, it is now more suited to those that want to relax and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this area. It is the only town on the shores of Lake Alexandrina, and a few buildings of the period remain along with the restored railway station and carriages.

There is an abundance of water sport activities such as sailing, power boating, windsurfing, kite sailing and fishing, or just relax next to the lake. Tennis and lawn bowls is also nearby.

Port Milang Historic Railway Museum has a number of coaches and wagons standing on the original tracks alongside the original station building. These contain and exhibition of photos and memorabilia of the Port of Milang and its railway.

For those seeking culinary delights we have a number of wineries in the area as well as a hotel with excellent dining and a country bakery.

Yesterday’s Power Rally is held annually in January, and collectors and enthusiasts from around Australia gather at the oval for a weekend of activities, showcasing machinery and equipment from days gone by, as well as the ever popular Tractor Pull.

Also held annually in January is the Milang Goolwa Freshwater Classic, which attracts a yearly fleet of 400-500 boats of every shape and size between 14 and 40 feet. The Milang-Goolwa is by far the largest yacht race in South Australia and reputedly the largest in the Southern Hemisphere.
