Things To Do
There is so much to see and do in the Gippsland Rivers and Lakes district of Victoria. The Gippsland Lakes is the largest estuarine lake system in Australia, and is unsurpassed for all water sport: boating, yachting, sailboard riding, swimming, skiing and fishing. The 90 Mile beach is just 20 minutes away at Lakes Entrance, and is wonderful for surfing, swimming, surf fishing or just to stroll along. For those without a boat of their own, you can hire one at Lakes Entrance, or there are a variety of cruises available to book.
For those who enjoy cycling, the East Gippsland Rail Trail is just a short ride away, and crosses Stephenson Road just 2 km from the caravan park. The area abounds with national parks including the Colquhuon Forest, Fairy Dell, and Glenaladale National Park for the bushwalking enthusiast, and for those who prefer the beach, there is the Ninety Mile Beach Marine Park and the Gippsland Lakes Coastal Park.
A trip further afield can take you to the beautiful beaches of Cape Conran, or visit the High Country with day trips to McKillops Bridge in the Snowy River National Park, or Mount Hotham. Visit the timber town of Orbost, and then take the road to Marlo, where the mighty Snowy River flows out to the ocean. The Buchan caves are some of the best limestone caves in Victoria.
For a bit of history, the homestead at Nyerimilang Park is worthy of a visit with its magnificent rose garden and lake views. There are also many fine restaurants and hotels in the area, some specialising in great local seafood, also some excellent wineries.
